Ambulance dispatcher
Duties and responsibilities: Works under the direction of
the Director of Communications or Dispatch Supervisor. Responsible for
contacting emergency services such as police and fire or delegating these
responsibilities to the call taker . Make phone calls to facilities if there is
any change or discrepancy in the transport schedule. Assist with entering trips
that may be scheduled through fax or email. Responsible for checking and
maintaining email communications during each shift .Accurately record
information as needed on paper in the event of a computer loss.. All
occurrences outside of your normal daily duties should be secondary to
adequately performing your job. The general appearance of the dispatch center
should be neat and clean. Cleaning duties are, but are not limited to
collection and removal of all garbage, sweeping and mopping floors and washing
and wiping of all surfaces and equipment.
Salary: $26,070-$34,863
Education: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS), most ambulance dispatchers have at least a high school diploma. uniform
standards are followed. Programs and courses are offered through community and
technical colleges, state agencies, professional organizations and approved
training facilities. Some states require ambulance dispatchers to be certified
and could provide credentials through the state Department of Health or the
Department of Transportation. Some states also require emergency medical
dispatchers who work for either public agencies or private ambulance companies
to obtain state licensing. Specific training and testing is usually required,
and licensed ambulance dispatchers could have to complete continuing education
and maintain a valid CPR certification to renew their license.
